How the Installation Process Works.
One of our daylighting experts will come out to your home. They will conduct a daylighting evaluation with you. This includes determining light levels measured in lux or foot-candles.
Good daylight comes from the sky, not from the sun directly.
We will consider which roof slope will work best for your home. Also, we will evaluate the room you’re looking to brighten up. If it applies, we need to look in the attic. The distance from the ceiling to the roof is important.
You can expect your daylighting expert to give you an on-site proposal for the scope of work decided on. Determining the cost takes into effect all of the above-mentioned details.
It also depends heavily on which daylight product you have chosen. We offer a wide variety of sizes and models to choose from.
We have about 20 W-2 employees to choose from to get this work done. The scheduling process includes choosing the most qualified individual to get your work done promptly.

We will arrive at your home around 8 am. We lay down protective plastic below the installation site and a path to the installation site from the front door. The lead technician will make a chalk outline on the ceiling where the skylight will be installed.
Once you approve that, we can get cutting! We take great care to control dust and debris. First, we cut through the ceiling and the roof. Then, we frame the shaft in lumber and insulate it. Next, we mount the skylight. Finally, we hang unfinished sheet rock in the shaft.
We sub-contract a five star drywall company to come in after us for the mudding and texturing of the shaft. We try to be as “turn key” as possible but you will need to hire a painter after we finish.

Leaks! — The most common problem solved with repairs. There are many reasons for leaks and a variety of solutions. Many skylight leaks can be repaired cost effectively and our proposal will reflect this.
SKYLIGHT LEAKS
One common issue is attempting to repair failed skylight seals. This is done by applying caulk between an acrylic dome and its frame. This causes two major problems. Expansion and contraction stresses are increased dramatically. This causes premature cracking. The dome is "glued" to the frame, making it virtually impossible to separate without breaking it. Replacement is the only choice.

FLASHING LEAKS
Flashing leaks are more labor intensive. This is more of a roof repair than a skylight repair, but should be done by someone with expertise in the issues and solutions particular to skylights. Minor problems can be repaired cost effectively and our proposal will reflect this.

Acrylic Dome Replacement
When the flashing is in good condition, replacing a curb mounted skylight becomes simple. It's like removing the lid from a shoe box. Then, you just replace it with a new lid.
Many skylight problems can be solved with a simple VELUX FCM skylight replacement. A skylight of standard 2'x4' size may be replaced for as little as $695.

Many skylight problems can be solved cost effectively with a VELUX skylight and flashing replacement. Since flashing leaks are more labor intensive, the labor involved with replacing the skylight at the same time is relatively insignificant.
